Based on discourse analysis of 20 case studies, Dell'Orto shows how the American press covered the world from 1848-2008. Those discourses of the world shaped the box within which foreign policy options were debated -- and occasionally provided the means to think outside of it -- supporting a call for strengthening foreign correspondence, one of the major casualties of U.S. journalism's current crisis.
